HELPING HANDS MISSION

sri_lanka

We want them to help themselves, put a little hope in their lives, get them back on their feet and do it with dignity. Will you help us?

Lend a helping hand. Several months after the tsunami, thousands of victims are still walking around in utter hopelessness. Your help is needed now, more than ever. The death toll from the catastrophe in Asia has now exceeded 175,000. Thousands of children have been left orphaned or homeless. People have lost, not only their loved ones, but their homes and means of livelihood as well.

We surveyed our members in Asia. Here are what they need most:

1. Assistance in putting their business back together. They need both expertise and capital.

2. Schools, books and school supplies for the little ones

3. Training for local counselors. The grief has not subsided. So many people are contemplating taking their own lives. "What have I to live for"? they ask.

4. Training on how to cope with similar disasters in the future.

5. More tourists. Tourism has been the number one dollar earner in these areas. The same spectacular beaches and magnificent coral reefs that have lured foreign tourists and fueled a thriving tourism industry have scared them away.  They need your help in re-capturing this lost business.

PLEASE HELP US HELP THESE PEOPLE IN NEED. Here's how:

1. Join the Helping Hands Mission to Thailand, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Maldives on July 30 - August 14, 2005. The Philippines has not been hit by the tsunami but it was hit by a devastating typhoon one week before the tsunami struck. The typhoon also left thousands dead and thousands more homeless.

People who are able to spend more time in one country are encouraged to do so. We will make arrangements for your extended stay.

We need doctors, nurses, counselors, trainers, educators, business consultants, assistants and others. Click here for the application form

100% of the funds we are raising will go to programs so you will need to pay for your travel. However, we are negotiating special deeply discounted airfare and hotel rates. In some communities, some of our partners may be able to host your accommodations in their homes. Email Sue Ling for updates

2. If you can, donate cash. It is what is most needed.
